Bond-ing with Bollinger
Posted by: Phat Mama, 1-Nov-2008James Bond is back and yet again in style.
The world is abuzz and every city wants a piece of the action. But the most deserving is clearly Bond’s “favourite celebratory tipple” since 1979 – the ultimate Champagne Bollinger.
French champagne house Bollinger celebrates the worldwide launch of Quantum of Solace yesterday (Oct 31), with a RM25,000 collector’s item called the Bollinger/007 Bullet.
There are only 207 of this exclusive pieces worldwide, and only one is available in Malaysia. The Bollinger/007 Bullet was specially created by French designer Eric Berthes, who was commissioned for the job by Bollinger.
In Malaysia, a 600-specially-invited-guests event took off at the Golden Screen Cinema (GSC)’s Signature at The Gardens, Mid Valley, Kuala Lumpur where the Bollinger/007 Bullet was showcased amidst the sound of jazz and later the movie preview.
Organized by GSC, Buena Vista and Bacardi Martini the event marked the birth of James Bond’s 22nd official movie played by Daniel Craig of Casino Royale.
Would you like to own a Bollinger/007 Bullet?
The Bollinger/007 Bullet is 65cm in size and is in the design a bullet, placed on a carbon covered base. Inside the Bullet sits the champagne, a Magnum of Bollinger 1999 in black and silver.
When the Magnum is removed from its cradle, the Bullet can be used as a storage compartment for personal accessories. A leather garnished key is used to lock the Bullet.
Each Bullet has its own individual number and as of this afternoon, the Bullet in Malaysia is still available for purchase.
Embraced by the rich and famous, Champagne Bollinger is also favoured by Queen Victoria who granted it the Royal Warrant in 1884, making Bollinger the official supplier to the British court.
Just like Queen Victoria, Agent 007 James Bond too can’t live without the “dry and toasty” flavour the champagne is recognized for. You will find it in every James Bond film since Moonraker.
Daniel Craig in ation.
Maybe James Bond will one day say: “It’s Bollinger, Champagne Bollinger”.
